The spectators were treated to a fantastic example of fast, free flowing football at Bovell Park on Sunday. Geographe Bay took on high flying Bunbury United in the Premier Reserves League. With nothing to lose, Geographe set up to attack and they didn't disappoint. There were plenty of chances for both sides as the game ebbed and flowed from one end to the other. The two sides both looked equally dangerous on the counter attack and it didn't take long for the goals to start flowing. Bunbury took the lead early on with a well taken taken finish from their pacey winger. Geographe soon levelled and then took the lead when Steve Forbes finished superbly; first with his right foot and then finishing off a fine move involving Destiny Gartner with a well placed header. Bunbury pulled one back but Chris Godden grabbed a brace before half-time with opportunist finishes to give Geographe a 4:2 half time advantage. In hindsight, Geographe should've tried to close the game down and protect their lead but they knew that they could create more chances and continued to attack. Bunbury United played well in the second half and caused problems with their direct play and counter attacking. A contentious penalty for handball and a couple of neat finishes meant that United surged in front and took the lead. Lack of experience and some tired legs meant that Geographe failed to take their half-chances and they couldn't claw their way back. Full time; Geographe 4 Bunbury United 6. It was a great game and it demonstrated how far the Seasiders have come this season; they gave a top side a real run for their money. Jono Roy was awarded the Cape Cellars man of the match award for his excellent display at centre back. Dene Williams ran him close at left back and earned himself the Retravision young player of the day. The Seasiders have a bye next weekend and then their final game will be at home to Dynamos the following Sunday.
