CRUISE ships will be able to dock at the Busselton Jetty by December this year.
The City of Busselton has awarded a tender to Engineered Water Systems for construction of the jetty marine berthing facility.
The company have previously completed work in Geographe Bay including the swimming jetty, boat ramps and Busselton Jetty.
The total budget for the project is $1.2 million with Tourism WA and the Busselton Jetty Reserve giving $600,000 each towards the marine berthing facility.
City of Busselton’s director of engineering and work services Oliver Darby said at the moment the jetty wasn’t strong enough to take on cruise ships which visit the bay.
The new marine berthing facility will be constructed to support the weight of cruise ships and commercial boats that dock onto the jetty.
Construction is due for completion by December 21 which will be in time for the arrival of a cruise ship in January next year.
