Victorian tracks will host three of the opening six events in a re-organised 2016 V8 Supercars championship, which is set for more races in a shorter season.
In a major move, the V8 series' stop at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit will shift from November to April.
The 2016 V8 Supercars calendar is due to announced later this week in the lead-up to Sunday's Sandown 500 endurance race, the traditional warm-up for next month's Bathurst 1000.
It is scheduled to be increased from 14 to 15 championship events - plus the non-title support races at the Australian Grand Prix - if a city street race in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in August goes ahead.
Fairfax Media has learned that the Phillip Island SuperSprint, which is the second last event of this year's championship on November 21-22, will be brought forward to April 16-17 next year.
The change has been made to improve the chances of running the event in warm, sunny weather to attract a bigger crowd to the picturesque oceanside circuit.
Phillip Island's most recent V8 events in November have been poorly attended because of the unpredictable weather at that time of year.
The swap will also mean the V8s will visit Victoria three times in the first six events of the compacted calendar, which will start with the Adelaide 500 on March 5- 6.
Following the second event at Symmons Plains, near Lanceston, on March 19-20, the V8s will make their annual non-championship appearance on the support program of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park from April 1-3.
The championship will resume at Phillip Island two weeks later and, after the usual early May trip to Perth's Barbagallo Raceway, return to Winton Motor Raceway, near Benalla, on May 21-22.
As previously revealed by Fairfax Media, the 2016 V8 Supercars championship will feature more events closer together in a season split by a new four-week winter break.
It will also be shorter, with the season-ending Sydney 500 brought forward by two weeks to November 19-20.
The pre-season test in February has been abandoned in favour of more in-season testing, while a new format for the Saturday races at the SuperSprint events is likely.
A switch to new softer-compound tyres - which were evaluated at a test by V8 champion Jamie Whincup at Queensland Raceway last Monday - is also being considered for the sprint races.
