COUNCILLOR Jenny Green is running for re-election this month and said Busselton was the professional council when compared to others in the region.
Ms Green said the information given to councillors by the city’s executive directors was crucial in debating issues and reaching decisions that effect Busselton.
Over the last four years Ms Green said being on council had been both rewarding and challenging and she wished the city could have it all when it came to planning issues.
“I am more pleased with what we’ve been able to achieve than what we haven’t but nothing is set in concrete,” she said.
“If something doesn’t happen today it might be something that happens in a few years’ time when budgeting or infrastructure isn’t an issue.”
One of the things Ms Green was most proud of achieving during her first term was the installation of public toilets in Signal Park.
Ms Green said the amenities weren’t on the master plan when she started but was able to push once she joined.
“From a woman’s perspective for elderly women and younger women with children it’s always an issue and there’s always a need for that amenity,” she said.
Another achievement for the city was gaining state funding for the airport which Ms Green said would make Busselton the hub of the South West.
“The airport will open a lot of opportunities for tradesmen, distribution centres and warehouses,” she said.
“It will also create employment opportunities for reservation, customer control, security and parking staff.”
Ms Green is on the committee for the airport and would like to see it named the Busselton Margaret River Regional Airport.
“The rate payers deserve respect in acknowledging their contribution to this airport as well as what the state provides.”
In addition to the airport upgrade Ms Green is keen to see the completion of the city’s administration building and commencement of a performing arts centre.
“Busselton has arrived at a stage in its cultural development to accept a performing arts centre,” she said.
“It will be a place for local, regional and international talent plus a convention and entertainment centre.”
