VASSE MP Libby Mettam wants Busselton residents to know she did not approve of a photo of her being used in a City of Busselton candidate election video.
The election campaign video by Anne Ryan shows a selection of photos which feature Libby Mettam, Federal member for Forrest Nola Marino and WA Premier Colin Barnett, who are all members of the Liberal Party.
Ms Mettam said she was not aware an image of her was being used to promote the candidate.
“I can unequivocally state the Liberal Party has no involvement in the endorsement or support of candidates in this election, it is a local government matter and as a state government representative I have no involvement in this,” she said.
The City of Busselton were reluctant to comment on the matter because it was out of the city's jurisdiction.
However, chief executive officer Mike Archer said the matter had been raised with the Returning Officer and Electoral Commission.
The Local Government Act states that the name and address of the person authorising the election material must appear at the end of the promotion.
The WA Electoral Commission director election operations Justin Harbord said the commission had notified the returning officer to ask the candidate to include the address for authorisation because her name already appeared.
“The Commission accepts that this was an oversight on the candidate’s part, as occurs in many campaigns, and if the matter is corrected will take no further action,” Mr Harbord said.
The local government postal elections will finish on October 17.
The City of Busselton has 13 candidates vying for five positions on council.
City of Busselton council candidate Anne Ryan was contacted for comment and is yet to change the video in question.
