THE close fought nature of the Busselton Tennis Club’s Ladies League is continuing with a number of the match being decided on a countback.
This week, Team Stosur defeated Williams by the narrowing of margins, six sets each and 56-55 games.
Jean Sawkins won five sets while Julianne Garland claimed five for Williams.
Evert defeated King 6-6 (57-52) while Seles posted their first win 9-3 against the top side Navratilova.
Court also posted a 9-3 victory over Goolagong while the ladies in team Ivanovich claimed a 7-5 win.
Saturday’s centre court challenge saw new member Erica Franklin team up with Andrew O’Neill to defeat Colin and Gracie Miller 7-4 while Val Rushforth Liba La Rose were winners in round one of the knockout competition.
The third round of the SMT Scroungers competition saw Bernie Masters make an impressive return from injury to win all his matches.
The victories helped Frosty’s Ford get over Lowndes’ Holden 11-5.
In the match of the day Wayne Richter teamed up with Masters to get over Herman Dystra and Dennis Schram 6-5 (12-10) while Max Cussons and Frank Marsh defeated Gus Guthrie and Mike Harris 6-5 (7-5).
On November 18 the Wednesday night sessions will start with new players and entrants welcome from 7pm while the club mixed handicap doubles tournament will be played on Sunday with partners drawn into three round robin pools.
