A NEW report has revealed the cost of renovating a home in Western Australia has risen more than 10 per cent in the last year.
The Renovation Consumer Price Index quarterly report released by serviceseeking.com.au analysed 52,000 quotes submitted by tradesman.
Service Seeking chief executive officer Jeremy Levitt said the figures highlight an increasing demand for home renovations relative to the supply of tradesmen across the state.
“There is a severe skills shortage in WA as excess demand in the renovation sector outstrips the supply of local tradespeople,” he said.
Western Australia recorded an increase in renovation costs of 10.4 per cent in the past 12 months compared to the national average price increase of 1.9 per cent.
Plumbers are now the most expensive tradesman, charging an average of $97.37 an hour in WA while plasterers and concreters both charge 11.3 per cent more than this time last year.
It’s not all bad news though with flooring jobs becoming 16.4 per cent cheaper and carpenters dropping their prices five per cent.
