Bulls Gold defeat Bulls Maroon
Bulls Maroon slipped from first to third on the Bunbury Basketball Association ladder after losing a shootout with Bulls Gold on Friday night.
Chris Douglas, Brynn Francis and Bradley Fiori all had big nights affecting the scoreboard for Bulls Gold to help them topple the league leaders 90 – 85.
Despite a late three-point shot from Michael Gliddon bringing Maroon within two points, Bulls Gold managed to knock down their free-throws late and seal the win.
Douglas top scored for Gold with 24 points while Francis (17) and Fiori (16) also contributed strongly.
Trent Worthington did his best to power Maroon over the line with 29 points along with Patrick Phillips who put up 22, but they eventually fell short.
Bulls Gold now sits in sixth place on the ladder with a 3-4 record.
Aces Navy defeat Aces White
Following Bulls Maroon’s loss, Aces Navy moved to first on the ladder with a win over Aces White in round seven.
Jeremy Paull and Wade Hitchcock continued to terrorise opposing defences as they put 19 and 15 points respectively, bagging a 64 – 53 win for Navy.
Archie Hall also poured in 13 points for Navy.
For Aces White, Matt Germs continued to shoulder most of the load.
He put up 18 points for his side while Jordan Sears and Aaron Edwards had 13 and 12 respectively.
Aces Navy will hope to remain in top spot when they take on the fourth placed Busselton in round eight.
Tornadoes Black defeat Tornadoes Grey
Tornadoes Black ascended to second on the BBA A-grade men’s side on Friday night, with a huge win over Tornadoes Grey.
Five players scored in double-figures and had huge contributions for Black, helping them to dismantle Grey 85 – 51.
Jason Smith led the scoring for Black with 21, but a contributed effort from all players lifted them to the win.
Nat Van Dijk and Tim Collins both tallied 19, while Carey Watkins and Lucas Goff had 13 and 11 respectively.
Blair Fisher, Jayden Wilson and Steve Smith all had nine points for Grey, but no player could reach double-figures.
Busselton defeat Tornadoes Red
Busselton returned to the winners’ list with a 16-point victory over the lowly Tornadoes Red on Friday night.
Matt Mansfield led the way for Busselton, knocking down plenty of shots and registering 25 points.
Egan Bradbury and Cam Bell poured in 14 points each while Dylan Ness recorded 12.
Tornadoes Red received an even spread of points with five players reaching double-figures, but could not come close to the total.
Bree Dudek finished with 14, while Tom Harper (13), Thomas Warrigal (11), Brant Edwards (11) and Liam Tilbrook (10) scored well for Red.
A-Grade Women
Aces Blue defeat Busselton
A huge helping of 22 points from Raya Thompson gifted Aces Blue a big win over Busselton on Friday night.
Thompson banked in 10 field goals and two free-throws on her way to 22 points, lifting her side to the 56 – 36 win.
She was the only double-figure scorer for her side, but received good contributions on the court from Kate Fielding and Hannah Kurek.
Felicity Jones and Dragana Kovijanic did their best for Busselton with 14 and 12 points respectively but the side could not get within 20 points of Aces Blue.
Aces Blue will take on Tornadoes Black in round eight while Busselton will face Aces White.
Bulls defeat Tornadoes Black
A combined effort from Brittany Gliddon, Rebecca Preston and Shannon McRobert hoisted Bulls to a victory over Tornadoes Black in round seven.
The trio recorded 48 points between them as they ousted Tornadoes Black 61 – 50.
Gliddon top-scored for Bulls with 21 while Preston (15) and McRobert (12) both had double-figure nights.
The trio teamed together to overcome Tornadoes Black’s Dena English, who lit the court up with 30 points, accounting for more than half of her side’s scoring.
Bulls now reside in second on the ladder.
