IT was no walk in the park for the 2016 Quit Forest Rally winners Simon Evans and Ben Searcy who were pushed all the way to the top of the podium by young guns Harry Bates and John McCarthy.
Both teams finished the event with the same points based on their positions in heats one and two, however, the bonus point was given to Evans and Searcy.
The triumphant duo recorded the most stage wins during the event which was enough to hand them the event victory.
Evans said it was a long trip to Busselton so he wanted to make he got some points on the board.
“I love this, I just love being out here,” he said.
“The way I look at it they’ve closed all the forests off just for me so it’s just fantastic.
“The young fellas just caught us unawares.”
Evans said his team were happy with their pace and thought they were doing well until someone said, Harry’s kicking your butt.
Bates will leave Busselton with similar points to his competitor and said it was beyond what he expected.
