RESIDENTS in Abbey Beach are fed up after a nature reserve was used as a construction site during the infill sewerage project.
Residents said a contractor used the reserve as a compound for their equipment and debris which created a “humongous” dust problem in the area.
Brian Saunders who lives opposite the reserve said the City of Busselton failed to ensure the contractor reestablished the reserve and allowed them to leave it a mess when they left.
Mr Saunders and his wife Peta said the dust was so bad they had to clean their clothes line each time they did their washing and could not see their neighbours over the road.
“It was like a grey curtain I had to get a wet cloth and wipe all the plants because they were grey,” she said.
City of Busselton director of engineers and works service Oliver Darby said the reserve was used over 18 months by a contractor for the Water Corporation.
Mr Darby said the contractor had vacated the site and further works will be undertaken to reinstate the reserve.
