THE Val Lishman Health Research Foundation is holding a birthday brunch at Caves House on July 24.
The brunch will celebrate and honour the life of the late Doctor Val Lishman, who was the first specialist surgeon in regional Western Australia.
He inspired the creation of the Foundation in 1997, which was set up to facilitate health research and health promotion in regional Australia.
Foundation executive officer Jackie Ross said the event would provide an update to the public about what the foundation has achieved in the past, and what is coming up for it in the future.
“We are heading towards our 20th anniversary and Dr Lishman has just passed away, so it is an important time in the life of the foundation and just a really good chance to reflect on what we have achieved in the last 19 years,” she said.
“Former Hockeyroo Jayde Taylor is going to speak, as well as Dr Lishman’s son, Michael, and chairperson Amanda Lovitt.”
In the past, the foundation has played a key role in improving rural cancer outcomes, the wellbeing of breast cancer survivors in the South West, and supported important Ross River Virus research.
The community are invited to attend the brunch, which will be held in the Yallingup Room at Caves House from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
