A NUMBER of South West organisations have received Community Chest Fund grants as part of the Liberal National Government’s Royalties for Regions program.
This year the Community Chest Fund gave 28 community group initiatives one-off grants of up to $50,000.
Among them were Smiths Beach Surf Life Saving Club, which received $43,228.92 to put towards an equipment storage and training facility; Yallingup Rural Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, which were given $13,859 for a training room; Dunsborough Greenfield Community Group, which were given $38,000 to further support their Men’s Shed and Community Garden initiatives, and $31,000 was awarded to BJECA for a Busselton Jetty multimedia project.
Minister for Housing, Racing and Gaming Colin Holt, who presented the awards to the recipients, said the Fund helped reward the people who did the hard work on the ground.
“It’s only through your hard work, and your dedication to the group you are representing, that you get things across the line and get things funded,” he said.
Vasse MP Libby Mettam thanked the recipients for the work they had done to make the community stronger.
“Whether you are a surf life saving club who educate young people on the shore line, whether it is a fire group protecting our homes from fire, whether it is about bringing a community together to talk about the challenges of life in a workshop environment or in a garden space as well, or whether you are a tourist association which showcases some of the best this region has to offer, the Community Chest Fund is a fantastic program which I am proud to be an advocate of,” she said.
“It is great to see there is such a diverse range of organisations to benefit from the Community Chest Fund, all with very worthwhile local projects.”
