BUSSELTON artist Andrea Gabriela Gaisa wants to give her children’s book of illustrations life and created a crowdfunding project to help make it happen.
Gaisa’s introduced her book In My Heart to her son’s class and found most of the children wanted to share their emotions and talk with her about someone who had passed or lived far away.
She said people do not necessarily bring up taboo topics with children who like to process their emotions by sharing what they have experienced.
“The discussions that have come from my book have been really amazing and I am really interested in keeping that going,” she said.
“There has been a really beautiful connection with other people through my book which is why I am so passionate about bringing it out.”
Gaisa is crowdfunding through the website pozible.com where she is able to offer rewards to people who donate money towards the project.
Rewards start with donations from as little as $1, where a person who donates will receive an e-book version and an audio file of mediation to accompany the book.
“Larger rewards are me just being creative with it, I can use your pencil drawing and put colour and ink in it and send the drawing back to you or do a portrait of you or someone you would like, things like that,” she said.
Gaisa is also an educator and will be performing a book reading at Bottom Tots, a playgroup run at the Uniting Church in Busselton on July 14 which is $8 per family and morning tea will be provided.
