SECONDBITE is a national charity which redistributes surplus fresh food to Australian families in need.
Busselton and Dunsborough Coles will be raising money for SecondBite to help provide meals to families doing it tough this winter from June 29 until August 2.
As part of the five-week campaign, people in Busselton and Dunsborough can buy a $2 SecondBite donation card at Coles to help deliver the equivalent of five healthy meals to Australian families going through hardship.
Over the last five years, Coles supermarkets has donated the equivalent of 30 million meals to people across Australia.
Coles state general manager Mark O’Connor said Coles was proud to participate in the SecondBite program and encouraged shoppers to get behind the fundraising campaign this winter.
“Too many people in our communities do not have enough food to eat and are not able to afford healthy meals on a daily basis,” he said.
“We hope through our surplus fresh food donations and the support from our local customers, we can make a real difference to people doing it tough this winter,”
SecondBite chief executive officer Jim Mullan said the organisation had partnered with Coles since 2011 to rescue surplus fresh and nutritious food for people in need.
Mr Mullan said through their work with Coles they provided more than 23,000 nutritious meals everyday to children and families in Australia that were in need.
