A tale of desire and the strive to achieve the impossible is coming to Bunbury from the creators of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer and It’s Dark Outside.
Falling Through Clouds is the tale of a scientist and her dream to bring a dead species of bird back from extinction.
Co-creator and puppeteer Chris Isaacs said the story uses puppets, animation, environmental themes and the current social climate to tell a mostly non-verbal story about the danger of desire.
“The story isn’t an environmental story in a literal sense but it does use those themes to tell the story of this scientist’s dream of not only to bring a species back but her desire to fly on some level,” he said.
“The show has a spooky element to it, and uses puppets and animation to tell the story and the puppets add to the story thematically because they look fragile and that really expresses the natural fragility of birds quite well.”
Chris said they were inspired by stories of North American environmentalists trying to save endangered Whooping Cranes.
“We watched these videos of environmentalists who were trying save these birds and in doing so kind of institutionalised these birds and it became this strange case of humans teaching birds how to fly,” he said.
“We drew a lot of inspiration from the surreal nature of that and what that means if you really think about it.
“I hope people leave with a bitter-sweet feeling.”
Falling Through Clouds is coming to BREC for one performance only on Saturday July 30 at 8 pm.
