ST MARY MacKillop year 12 students are on track for a career in nursing after completing their Certificate IV in preparation for further studies.
The 300 hour course was designed to provide students about to graduate from Year 12 with skills and knowledge to continue studying nursing at a diploma or tertiary level.
Students gained knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and health mathematics.
They also developed an understanding of how microbiology relates to health care, the application of physics and chemistry fundamentals to nursing practice and the use of effective academic skills including presentation of work.
The nationally recognised certificate also allows students interested in other health areas such as psychology or health promotion to satisfy entry requirements.
MacKillop was one of the first schools in the South West to complete the Vocational Education Training program, which was delivered by registered nurse and senior lecturer Jasmine Scadden through Southern Regional TAFE.
