BUSSELTON is WA’s second top hot spot for animal-related accident claims, according to data collected by insurance company AAMI.
The data, which analysed 1132 animal-related accident claims in WA last year, listed Busselton as the second location with the most recorded animal incident reports in the state, after Madura.
Kangaroo collisions made up 88 per cent of accident claims, while wallabies, wombats and dogs also featured.
Further examination of almost 20,000 claims reported in 2015 showed animal collisions peaked in the period between June and August, and surged in July, posing a serious danger to both drivers and animals.
The majority of animal-related crashes also happened towards the end of the week with Friday being the worst day for collisions.
If you see an animal on the road slow down and brake. Avoid swerving so as not to endanger yourself and other drivers – it is far less dangerous to keep driving than swerve and collide with another vehicle or tree.
