Congratulations to the team behind Busselton’s Laundry 43, who were announced as one of the five Licensed Casual Dining Regional finalists at the 2016 Kleenheat Gold Plate Award presentations on July 25.
Members of staff travelled to Crown Perth were they received the Catering Institute of Australia accolade along with Dunsborough’s Piari & Co, Flutes Restaurant, Studio Bistro and Zanders at Cable Beach.
The Gold Plate Award, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, is a well regarded and highly successful hospitality industry awards program that rewards excellence and the endeavours of committed industry professionals, by giving them a means of improving and promoting their businesses.
Laundry 43’s Karis Silke said there were about 12 restaurants that entered the Licensed Casual Dining Regional category.
“We are a finalist with the final five,” she said.
“It is nice to get recognised, that’s for sure.”
Ms Silke said there was a series of criteria that the venue had to meet to enter the award, including food, service, wine list, presentation and cleanliness of restaurant.
“They look at the whole picture – not just the food, not just the drinks, it’s the whole package,” she said.
“We just try and do something different and the best we can in everything that we do here.
“All the produce that we use we try and source locally where ever possible – we try and support the locals and we hope they will do the same for us.”
Head chef Nathan Thomas thanked the Laundry team, made up of himself, Ms Silke, Chori Kim, Karoll Tapire, Micaela Zanda and casual staff, for their efforts.
Mr Thomas has worked for Michelin star restaurants and world renowned chefs including Gordon Ramsay, but said Laundry 43 was all about good quality, casual dining.
“It’s only meant to be casual – we’re not trying to go for best restaurant in the world, but we’re trying to offer the local community somewhere to go that’s a bit more classy than grabbing a pizza,” he said.
