MARGARET River Primary School student Emilie Costley raised $584 for Moon Bears during a cupcake fundraiser on August 18.
The student, who was helped by Daisy Beeson, Meg Lang, Hannah Atkins and Abbey Lentjes, sold 300 cupcakes baked by Margaret River Primary School parents.
“A Moon Bear is black with a yellow moon crescent on its chest,” Emilie said. “Sadly, the bears are kept in cages for most of their lives. Most of the caged bears are sick and starving, and suffer from diseases and tumours that ultimately kill them.
“The money we raised will go directly to the Moon Bear sanctuaries in China and Vietnam, to provide food and to help build new shelters for the rescued bears.”
Emilie thanked everyone for their support. For more information about Moon Bears visit animalsasia.org.
