A SUPPORT group for families and friends dealing with a loved one experiencing drug addiction will be held in Busselton on Saturday.
Doors Wide Open was founded in Bunbury by mother Lina Pugh because she found it difficult to find support in the community when her son used drugs.
Ms Pugh almost lost her son when he was taken to hospital with pneumonia and other complications from drug use.
Ms Pugh said she opened her front door because she found there were thousands of people in Bunbury who were experiencing similar problems.
The meeting will be held at St Mary’s Community Centre on Saturday September 3 from 2pm to 4pm.
Guest speakers will include Vasse MP Libby Mettam, Doors Wide Open founders Ms Pugh, Julie Kent and recovered addict Jamie Coyne.
Ms Mettam said she met with the group for the first time along with the Minister for Mental Health Andrea Mitchell and Bunbury MP John Castrilli at parliament.
She said she was impressed with the work they had done in the Bunbury community to support people with drug addiction.
“They all come from experience, with personal stories on how they have either provided support for or have experienced drug addiction first hand,” she said.
Refreshments will be available at the meeting and a donation to cover costs would be appreciated from people who attend.
