YALLINGUP’S Indian Ocean Longboard Club has claimed annual bragging rights after it won this year’s Lindsay Thompson Memorial Longboard Interclub contest, held along the South West coast at the weekend.
The Club competed against Cottesloe Longboard Club, Mullaloo Longboard Club and Scarborough’s Wavewalkers for the trophy, which was named in honour of the late Lindsay Thompson – a keen longboarder and former Indian Ocean member who lost his life in a Gracetown tragedy 20 years ago.
Strong south winds and a large swell on the day saw the contest moved from Yallingup to the shelter of Huzzawooies Break, inside Cowaramup Bay.
Indian Ocean’s Adam Lane, Bill Gibson, Lou Corkill and Amanda Curly managed to outperform and beat a strong a strong Cottesloe team for the win, with Mullaloo and Scarborough taking out third and fourth places.
