THE Busselton Bowling Women’s Club celebrated its 70th year anniversary on Thursday with a book launch of the club’s history.
Busselton Women’s Club life members Margaret Grigg and Shirley Silverman compiled the book which takes an in depth look at the club’s history.
Ms Grigg said at the celebration that it took more than four years to compile the 273 pages.
“I worked on it over the winter months for two days each week, when there was no bowls,” she said.
“I asked a few long term playing members if they were interested in giving me their history to include.
“Sadly, some of those people are no longer with us to read the finished book.”
While the bowling club was officially opened in 1904 it was 1946 when the women’s club formed.
The first bowling carnival for women was played in 1962 with 240 players.
A doctor's certificate was not an excuse for not wearing stockings and as late as 1995, it was a requirement to wear navy slacks or a skirt, a white blouse and a red jumper.
