ARIA winner and mulit-platinum singer/song-writer Alex Lloyd will be heading to the South West as part of his nation-wide Acoustica tour.
The tour, which celebrates the special release of Lloyd’s seventh full-length album of the same name, sees the musician visit the Dunsborough Tavern and Bunbury’s Highway Hotel in October.
The album is part of Liberation Blue’s acoustic series, which now has more than 20 album releases by various artists to its name.
Lloyd told the Mail he was approached by Liberation Blue, Michael Gudinski’s label, for the series.
“Before that I had been playing solo acoustic for about two years,” he said.
“It just felt like the right time to make a record like this.
“I am very familiar with the songs that I chose and it was a very simple, straight forward process – it felt like a good transition into something different, which I am hoping to put out next year.”
Twelve re-worked tracks from Lloyd’s career, including Amazing, Green, Coming Home, Hallelujah, Beautiful and Brand New Day, feature on Acoustica.
“I think I went with a lot of crowd favourites, to be honest with you,” he said.
“And just a couple that I personally wanted to change and that I did not feel like I liked so much as the produced versions.
“Brand New Day, for instance, I think is a much nicer version than the original recording.”
Lloyd said the tour, which kicked off in September, was going really well.
“It started in North Queensland and I have been going for about a month now,” he said.
“I am just getting stronger and stronger, building momentum and getting the word out that I am back.”
He said Dunsborough and Bunbury audiences could expect to hear all the tunes from Acoustica, but with extra players and a few extra songs from his extensive repertoire that are not on the record thrown into the mix.
“I have got a girl called Sarah Belkner who actually did all the string arrangements on Acoustica, so she is playing keys and she sings beautifully as well,” he said.
“Then it is me on the guitar and Alan Pigram from the Pigram Brothers is also joining me.
“He will be playing the mandolin and bits and pieces, so yeah, it is a pretty cool sound for an acoustic gig.”
Lloyd will be at the Highway Hotel, Bunbury, from 8pm on October 7, and at the Dunsborough Tavern from 8pm on October 9.
