SPORTS clubs within the City of Busselton will be pleased to know help has arrived to assist them with administrative requirements.
Former Olympian Pam Glossop has been recruited by the City of Busselton as their new club development officer to help sporting clubs deal with governance issues.
Ms Glossop will help clubs navigate their way around all the administrative and legislative requirements which included strategic planning, budgeting, funding submissions and governance.
She said new committees were usually formed by mum and dad volunteers who may not have the knowledge or skills and her job was to up-skill them.
“There can be a constant turnover as well, my role is saying you are not alone out there, help is available,” she said.
“It is exciting because it is a new position and it is certainly needed because there are a lot of clubs in Busselton and surrounding areas to cover and they all have different needs at different times.
“My job is to organise presentations to up-skill the committee so they feel more confident in what they are doing.
“Sometimes all they need is information and they do not know where to go, my role will save them time and make their life easier.”
One of Ms Glossop’s first initiatives will be a workshop titled ‘Safe Clubs 4 Kids’ to help clubs create and maintain safe environments for children and young people.
Ms Glossop said clubs needed to know about risk management before children went out and played and that fields were inspected to make sure nothing dangerous were on the grounds.
“There is a whole pile of things like that they need to do,” she said.
Ms Glossop represented Australia in hockey at the 1984 Olympics finishing fourth and captained a number of international games.
She has held executive officer positions at a number of sporting associations including the WA Touch Association, Women’s Golf WA and Bowls WA.
“I have a very long history in sports administration and playing,” she said.
The Safe Clubs 4 Kids workshop will be held from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Monday, November 14 at the Busselton Youth and Community Centre located at 47 Bussell Highway Busselton.
