THE annual Surfing Chefs for Surfaid will be held this Thursday, October 27 from 6.30pm at Bib and Tucker restaurant in North Fremantle.
Last year’s event raised more than $50,000 for the non-profit humanitarian organisation, which aims to improve the health and self-reliance of people living in the remote islands of Indonesia frequented by travelling surfers.
An evening of gourmet food and fine wine will be prepared by award-winning celebrity chefs who share a common passion of surfing and supporting humanitarian aid organisation, SurfAid.
SurfAid was started by a group of concerned surfers in 2000 who were struck by the needless suffering and preventable health disorders in the Mentawai Islands, Indonesia.
Today, more than 95 per cent of their program staff are Indonesian nationals who work hand-in-hand with the communities of Western Sumatra, Sumbawa and Sumba, to bring about positive, sustainable health change while respecting the unique culture and customs of the islands communities.
This year’s surfing chefs include Yallingup surfer Taj Burrow, Tom Carroll, Eamon Sullivan and Scott Bridger from Bib and Tucker, Russell Blaikie from Must Winebar, and Aaron Carr from Vasse Felix.
Burrow said he liked eating at wineries with his young family, but his favourite dish was Mexican food and he could not wait to see the chefs at work.
“I will have to pay close attention on Thursday and learn a few tricks,” he said.
