A volunteer firefighter who was charged with dangerous driving while racing to the scene of a blaze in Narrogin has been acquitted by the magistrate's court - and WA Police have now been forced to foot the bill.
The man was a member of the Narrogin Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service when he responded to a structure fire in the region in August 2014.
The man ran a stop sign and was subsequently hit by another vehicle.
The Magistrate's Court acquitted the volunteer of his traffic misdemeanours, and WA Police have now been left to cover costs of the man's legal fees.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services deputy commissioner Lloyd Bailey took the opportunity to remind drivers to be mindful of emergency vehicles, and to always give way.
