With the sun now shining across the region, the Disabled Surfing Association South West chapter are ready to hit the water for some fun.
Across select summer weekends, the association invites a number of dedicated volunteers to the beach to help those with disabilities enjoy a ride in the waves. One member who will be in the ocean at the first meet of the new season is Eaton’s James Murray.
Mr Murray was left physically and mentally damaged by a car accident in 2004 but before that, the 25-year-old had been a keen surfer.
His mother Cindy said if it wasn’t for the love and compassion shown by the Disabled Surfing Association, it would be impossible for James to enjoy one of his favourite pastimes.
The first event for 2016/17 will be held on December 10 at Bunker’s Bay. The day is free and anyone who wishes to get in the water will be catered for in a safe and dignified way. Volunteers with a willingness to help and have fun are also invited to attend.
