Two triathletes from Busselton have qualified for the next Ironman championships to be held in Hawaii which will see Belinda Dennis and Vince Middleton travel to Kona to compete.
Trish Vickery, Jane Hardy and Louis Bray all had good results in their age groups and qualified for the next 70.3 event which will be held in Tennessee next year.
Vickery who came first in her age division from 55 to 59 years said she was wrapped with her achievement and was the 25th woman to finish overall.
It will be her fourth world championships which she said was pretty special.
More than 2000 triathletes from 53 countries descended on Busselton over the weekend to compete in the Ironman WA and 70.3 events.
Ironman representatives said on their website that of the 1184 Australians who raced, WA had the most athletes with 419 people competing, followed by NSW with 294 competitors and 232 from Victoria.
There were 386 first timers who took part in the Ironman and 70.3 events.
Japan was the best represented international country with 100 athletes, 81 were from the United Kingdom, and 62 from Singapore.
The average age of competitors was 41, with 81 the oldest and 21 the youngest. The most well represented age group were 211 males aged between 45 and 49.
The race began with a one lap swim around the Busselton Jetty, two-lap bike leg to Tuart Forest National Park, then a four-loop run course along the foreshore.
