The Dunsborough School of Ballet performed The Swan Princess for their end of year concert and showcased classical ballet, Spanish and contemporary dances.
The school’s principal Caroline Jensen said it was wonderful to see the development of the young dance students to the more accomplished dancers.
“Each of the young students had the opportunity to perform in their own special story ranging from magical toy shops to enchanted gardens and fairies,” she said.
“Over the years this has evolved to include links to major classical ballets as this gives them an experience of the music and choreography of the classics.”
This year Ms Jensen put together a child’s version of the classical ballet Swan Lake using the music of Tchaikovsky from Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty.
“I spent hours studying the choreography of both ballets and introducing aspects of this to the students in choreography they could accomplish,” she said.
“It was extremely challenging but a visual spectacle to see 20 black and white swans swirling in and out of different patterns on the stage.”
Ms Jensen said the ballet gave the children and audience a feel for the drama and beauty of the ballet.
