Locked and loaded is a brand spanking new indoor shooting range after the Busselton Pistol Club secured nearly $104,000 in funding from the state government’s Regional Grants Scheme.
Touted as a huge asset for Busselton, construction on the Queen Elizabeth Avenue premise will commence in the next four to five months and the indoor range will feature two 25 metre and one 50 metre shooting range.
Boasting solid concrete tilt panelled walls, a fully enclosed roof, an indoor air filtration system and a clubroom, the club’s vice president Todd Davidson expects membership to double in the near future.
Mr Davidson said the club had been reborn with membership growing from 19 to 62 over the last four years.
“We’re the fourth biggest club in WA, we’re really nice guys,” Mr Davidson laughed.
"To have the first fully enclosed range owned and run by the city and community will be a huge asset for Busselton.”
President Nik Kraus said club members would no longer have to travel 90 minutes to Boyup Brook to shoot live rounds. Mr Kraus extended his gratitude to Member for Vasse Libby Mettam, the City of Busselton and the Department of Sport and Recreation for transforming the club’s proposal into a reality.
“The club has a wide ranging age group as part of their membership,” Ms Mettam said.
“This funding will support this dedicated community organisation who are working hard to improve facilities available to their members.”
