Busselton and Margaret River are the 18th most searched destinations in Australia when grouped together, according to the travel website Trivago.
Between 2016 and 2017, Trivago media relations spokesperson Samantha Hendricks said Margaret River searches grew considerably and Australians were more willing to spend higher prices than some of the top destinations in the world.
“With an average price of $252 per night, Margaret River is out pricing the likes of Barcelona ($220), Amsterdam ($238), Rome ($217), and rivalling the prices Australians want to spend to visit Paris ($253),” she said.
Ms Hendricks said it could be argued that Margaret River was the new gem of the west rivalling the likes of Noosa, Queensland ($346) and Byron Bay, New South Wales ($349).
Last year, the region did not rank in the top 30 domestic searches.
The rankings were determined from 175 million traveller reviews across 200 booking sites worldwide.
