The Busselton Tennis Club secured the Whittaker Challenge Trophy after scoring one more crucial set over their opponents Dunsborough in the inaugural men’s team tennis event named in honour of past member David Whittaker.
Busselton were decisive winners in the first tie played earlier in the season, nine sets to three while Dunsborough were victors in the reverse fixture 8-4 played on their home courts last week.
In a tight contest, five out of the 12 sets in round two went to a tie-breaker.
Doug Hutchison and Guido Ghedina defeated Mike Roberts and David Murrish 6-4 in what was a decisive match while Drew O’Neill and Tony Crolla were the key players in the first tie.
Pat Mulhearn, Allan Sheppard, Greg Banfield and Brian Walker were best for Dunsborough.
Annette Whittaker presented the trophy to Busselton who won 13 matches to 11 over both ties.
