Young muso Maya Ixchell is especially stoked to have scored the opportunity to perform for the second time at the Nannup Music Festival this year.
The 16-year-old Busselton Senior High School student will strum her guitar and work her vocal chords over three half-hour sets at the festival which runs from March 3-5.
Maya said she discovered her love for performing at the age of 11 after finding SingStar and she’s since had a broad appreciation for music – digging genres such as ballads, rock and alternative styles.
“When I first performed at the festival last year, it was really scary for me as it was only really my second or third gig,” she said.
“It was a new feeling and I was really nervous but the crowd were so great, just kind and supportive and made me feel comfortable.
“This time, I’ll try my best to shake off the nerves and focus on making people laugh, smile and feel something.”
Maya said a highlight of her music career thus far was the opportunity to perform for The Voice Producers in Perth.
“We sent through some footage from my first performance at the Nannup Festival last year and that got me an opportunity to meet and perform for the producers which was great,” she said.
“I made it to the Top 20 in Perth and I think that experience has affirmed my ability and passion to pursue music.”
