Five people, including two in their 20s, have died on Victoria's roads in the past 24 hours, bringing the state's death toll to 55.
All who died were men, the deaths all occurring in rural Victoria.
The latest of the accidents occurred at 4.15am on Saturday morning when a man in his 20s lost control of his car at Newhaven in Phillip Island.
Investigators have been told the sedan was travelling east along Phillip Island Road when it left the road and hit a tree.
The driver, and only occupant of the car, died at the scene.
Just two hours earlier, a 22-year-old man from New Gisborne met a similar fate when a ute he was a passenger in crashed into a tree in Bacchus Marsh, in the state's west.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said paramedics were called to Bacchus Marsh Road just after 2am, but the man was dead when they arrived.
Police say the white Holden ute was travelling east along Bacchus Marsh Road at The Avenue of Honour when the driver lost control and the vehicle left the road and hit the tree.
The driver, believed to be a 25-year-old man from Kurunjang, near Melton, was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

The carnage started about 8am Friday morning when a passer-by located a crashed vehicle on the Casterton-Apsley Road.
The sole occupant of the car, a 39-year-old South Australian man, had died at the scene after his car struck a tree.
Half an hour later a ute collided with a truck at the intersection of Skipton and Lake Roads in Beaufort.
The driver of the ute, a 27-year-old Beaufort man, died and his passenger, a 24-year-old Ballarat man, was taken to hospital with injuries.
The male driver of the truck stayed to help police with enquiries.
At 4.30pm a cyclist was killed when he was struck by a car on the Benalla-Yarrawonga Road in Devenish, about 230 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD.
The 66-year-old Hawthorn East man died at the scene and detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the incident.
Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer said it was important that people remembered that the road toll wasn't just a statistic, but represented real people.
"This year we have seen a significant reduction in the number of people killed on our roads and we were looking to be on track for a record low," Assistant Commissioner Fryer said.
"While this is promising, we need to keep in mind that it's not about records, it's about saving lives."
Assistant Commissioner Fryer said each one of those five people killed had a family, a history, a story.
"They're not just a number in a toll," he said.
"Every four hours yesterday, our emergency services had to attend another road death; police had to knock on another door and tell someone that a person they loved was never coming home.
"This weekend, I'm pleading with everyone to rethink their driving behaviour and make those adjustments which ensure they get home safely."
Police are looking at a range of factors behind the five incidents including speed, alcohol, fatigue and poor driver behaviour.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Natalie Webster said they were also concerned about the recent tractor incidents in which three people were killed.
A 68-year-old man died following an incident in Meredith on March 16, while a 53-year-old man died on Thursday after becoming trapped under a tractor in Wandin East.
Both incidents were on private property and are not included in the road toll.
WorkSafe has been notified and police will prepare a report for the coroner.
A 47-year-old man died after he fell from a trailer being towed along Upper Fifteen Mile Creek Road in Myrrhee, near the King Valley on Tuesday .
He was airlifted to hospital, but died on Thursday afternoon.
The total Victorian road toll now stands at 55, compared to 78 this time last year.
