Busselton Runners Club members were pleased to be able to donate a whopping $10,000 to FAWNA, a not-for-profit organisation which cares for injured and orphaned wildlife.
The donation was made possible through proceeds raised at the annual Busselton Runners Club Half Marathon and Fun Run in February.
The club’s vice president Denis Price said members were very pleased and proud to be able to donate such a large amount to FAWNA who do such important work.
“The fact that we’ve been able to donate such a significant amount is due to the community’s support for the BRC event,” Mr Price said.
“Relying on volunteers to organise and run the event also kept costs to a minimum and we were fortunate to get generous sponsorship from Sunsmart Healthway, the City of Busselton and many local businesses.
“The club’s annual running event is getting bigger and bigger each year so as long as it remains popularly supported, the Club expects to be able to continue supporting other not-for-profit groups who do great things for our community.”
FAWNA's Jeff Falconer said the funds would be directed towards the organisation’s programs and would fund aviaries, heat pads and other equipment for loan to members.
“This is one of the largest donations FAWNA has ever received and a great example of one community group backing another for the greater good. We are delighted with the donation and can’t thank the Busselton Runners Club enough.”
