Vasse MP Libby Mettam has two new roles to add to her portfolio and is about to take on the new shadow ministries for both tourism and small business.
Ms Mettam said she was thrilled to be given the portfolios which she had pitched for given every small business in the Vasse electorate was directly or indirectly affected by tourism.
She said since 2008, tourism in WA had improved and that Perth no longer carried the ‘dullsville’ tag.
She said while tourists in WA mostly travelled to Perth it was the beauty of the regions which encouraged them to travel to other places in WA.
“I am keen to see calendar events continue like the Margaret River Pro and CinefestOz, I am really committed to seeing support for these events,” she said.
Ms Mettam first took the seat of Vasse in the October 2014 by-election following the resignation of WA treasurer Troy Buswell.
In the recent state election, Ms Mettam held her seat with 45.8 per cent of the vote in her favour with Labor candidate Wes Hartley who trailed behind her with 20.3 per cent of the vote.
The new Minister for tourism and small business will be Paul Papalia who holds the seat of Warnbro in the Legislative Assembly.
