While a one way flight to Broome will set you back at least $300, you can now hire a car and travel from Perth to Broome for less than the cost of a mango.
Car hire company Europcar has released a new deal that allows travellers to hire a car and take a one way journey for $1, plus the cost of fuel.
The offer aims to get Europcar vehicles back to a certain city or returned to the manufacturer at the end of its lease to avoid the high cost of transporting vehicles.
Drivers from Perth to Broome would be given seven days to get there, and a leeway of 2800 kilometres, with standard damage cover included.
Fuel would cost travellers a minimum of $340 on the road, plus the cost of leaving the tank full upon arrival.
The offer has been discussed on social media forums, with some travellers smelling a bargain.
"Most of these one way rentals at normal retail will be between $200 and $400 JUST for the one way - excluding daily rental and fuel," said one poster.
"It's a good deal if you require it in that time frame and don't mind the chance on getting either a small car or something big."
"Sounds great if you're going there anyway and don't need a car while there and don't need to return," said another.
Other car hire companies offer a medium sized car for seven days with unlimited kilometres from Perth to Broome from about $300 to over $1000, not including the cost for fuel.
Australian backpacker Harry Foreman said he thought Europcars' offer was a great concept, but he wouldn't take the risk.
"I'd be too concerned about the fine print to go for it, things like insurance, flat tyre, breakdown, anything that might incur an extra cost."
"I'd much rather hitch-hike or ride share to get more of an adventure out of the travel," he said.
