It has been a quiet week at the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro event site, with officials making the call to delay competition until at least Friday in anticipation of what some are calling an “all time” swell developing into the weekend.
Lay days are called at strategic points in competition when waves are not at competition level and time can be spared across the event window.
Luckily for the professional surfers and their families, they happen to be spending those lay days in one of the world’s most pristine tourism destinations.
With a smorgasbord of surf breaks to choose from, it is no surprise much of these “days off” have been spent in the water, making the most of what could be the final time the Margaret River Pro appears on the World Surfing League Championship Tour.
