A photograph found within the contents of an old suitcase has sparked a local search to identify the woman in the image.
According to the Margaret River and Districts Historical Society (MRDHS)’s Val Wyld, the photograph of the mystery woman was uncovered during recent renovations to a Margaret River property.
“The house, on Townview Terrace, had belonged to Don and Joyce McKenzie,” Mrs Wyld said.
“Current owners were carrying out renovations to the home and found the suitcase under the house.”
While the MRDHS cannot confirm whether the suitcase belonged to the McKenzies, Mrs Wyld said dates on some of the items found in the suitcase suggest the couple may have placed the suitcase under the house during their occupation.
“Along with recipes, knitting patterns and embroidery we found this photo and we were keen to identify the lady,” she said.
“We consulted with senior citizens who knew the couple, and they did not think the photo was of Joyce McKenzie.”
Also found in the case was a sewing certificate in the name of Miss A. Macaulay, a lady known to be a friend of Joyce McKenzie who died tragically at a young age.
Mrs Wyld said the group was keen to hear from members of the public who may be able to help piece together the Margaret River puzzle and urged people with any information to contact the MRDHS.
“If anyone can help the Society identify this mystery lady, or provide any information towards this story, it would be much appreciated.”
