Ecotourism has become a hot ticket item for international tourists travelling to Australia to experience our country’s natural assets, which were a key strength and growth area, according to Tourism Australia.
Vasse MP Libby Mettam said data from Tourism Australia showed 38 per cent of international tourists chose travelled to Australia to experience ecotourism.
Ms Mettam said it was essential to offer tourists a diverse range of tourism experiences and cater for a range of budgets, whilst promoting the strengths of our natural environment.
Earlier this year, boutique olive oil producers Olio Bello developed a glamping initiative on their Cowaramup property to provide an integrated agriculture and tourism destination.
Olio Bello director Garry Garside said the six luxury eco-tents with ensuites provided guests an opportunity to get back-to-basics and an authentic tourism experience.
“Luxury is rapidly being redefined and people are changing the way they want to spend their weekends and holidays,” he said.
