Busselton women's side claim their first ever victory | photos

The Busselton Magpie’s womens side scored their first ever win on Saturday afternoon with a nine point defeat of Carey Park.

Strong contested football stopped either side putting a score on the board in the opening term and by the main break, the Magpies led 1.2.8 to 1.0.6.

Both sides continued to go hard at the ball in the third term with Busselton increasing their lead to four points at the final change.

Carey Park regained the lead early in the final term with Busselton’s Demi Liddle securing victory for the Magpies in the dying minutes with a stunning goal threaded from a tight angle.

The 4.4.28 to 3.1.19 victory was Busselton’s first from four matches in the inaugural season of the women’s competition.

Harvey Bulls remain on top of the ladder with five undefeated games while South Bunbury have won three from four.

Carey Park are still chasing their first victory.

The South West Football League has also named the female team set to take on the Peel Football League in an inaugural representative clash between the two old foes.

Busselton’s Tessa Keane, Somer Palandri, Kelly Player and Demi Liddle were named in the 25 player squad which will play Peel in Mandurah on June 17.

The four Magpies will be presented with their South West jumpers at a function on Tuesday.
