The Department of Parks and Wildlife have advised that parts of the mountain bike trail network in Bramley National Park will be closed from June 12 to 30 for pine harvesting operations.
Trail users will still be able to access the majority of the 10 trail network in the park with the partial closure reopening before the July school holidays.
The trails affected include Big Pine and Paper Trail, which are bound by Fox, Baker, Ashton and Pine Boundary roads.
Access will still be available from the manager’s carpark via the northern entry of the pine plantation and Carters road carpark adjacent to the Wadandi track.
Parks and Wildlife visitors services officer Ben Tannock said maintaining access to the trail network was a priority for the department and the harvesting operation had been scheduled to ensure it would not impact the school holiday period.
“The Bramley National Park mountain bike trail network is an important recreational site for the Margaret River region and a key tourist attraction,” he said.
“As such we have scheduled harvesting operations to minimise impacts on residents and visitors.”
Forest Products Commission Plantations operations branch manager Chaz Newman said the agency would be harvesting power poles from the pine plantation.
“When harvesting begins, there will be heavy machinery on site and trees being felled,” he said.
“This presents a safety risk for the general public and it is important mountain bike riders do no enter the active worksite during the harvesting operations.”
Signage will be in place to inform park users of the trail closures and pine harvesting.
