BUSSELTON Netball Association uses an umpire squad that the association draws upon to umpire all the games on a Saturday and Monday night. Every week BNA use 83 umpires over 46 games.
The association has introduced umpire development programs to maintain our stocks and standard of umpires. Utilising parts of the WA Netball's Green Shirt Program we have a 12-week training course for first year umpires. This involves theory and practical activities once a week, and then by week six they head out onto the courts to start the real thing. The trainees wear green shirts so that everyone is aware they are in training. There are 18 super enthusiastic young umpires in our classes this year. Second and third year umpires receive on-court training as they move towards attaining a "C" badge, the first level on the pathway for umpires. All of the senior squad members work hard together to give the younger umpires the support and confidence to take on the job of being an umpire.
