Martial art students in Busselton stepped up to the plate with Sensei Phil awarding multiple gradings to his students before closing out the term.
The first of several major gradings saw Simon Whitehouse and Leon Maag attain their senior green belt with the duo both performing well, demonstrating a high level of understanding and technical ability.
Last Sunday also saw the junior group all graded to their next level with the girls heavily out numbering the boys.
Sensei Phil said martial arts was for everyone, male or female, young or old.
“It was really great to see so many girls participate in this art,” he said.
“They are cultivating valuable life skills that they will carry into all areas of their life. What parent wouldn't want their daughter to be strong and confident and have the ability to protect herself?"
Some of the highlights saw refined bag work from Oliver Mansfield and Pippa Sturk- Ralls with some fierce wrestling bouts between Arlo Nerva-Huxtable and Chanel Young.
Also Dakotah Herring and Blake Corre sat the test for their junior red belt.
This involved many areas of training including grappling, dealing with multiple opponents, ground fighting, sparring, katana, knife defence and baton defence.
“It was a great grading with the students showing a high standard throughout," Sensei Phil said.
“These higher level gradings really test you as a person as there are so many different aspects.
“One minute your demonstrating swordsmanship, then you are fighting off your back and then your sparring with someone. Our goal is to produce versatile martial artists that can cope with any situation."
Sensei Phil also wished to thank all the members who helped as training partners for the grading candidates.
"There are so many keen students at the moment we have to test them in batches." he said.
