MelanomaWA has joined forces with Thrifty WA to drive their community awareness initiatives across the South West.

Melanoma is one of the most serious and life-threatening forms of skin cancer and is the most common form of cancer for 15 to 39 year olds.

MelanomaWA’s aim is to minimise the impact of melanoma on all West Australians, changing people’s behaviour one person at a time.

MelanomaWA CEO, Clinton Heal, says that awareness initiatives in the regional community are crucial.

“Melanoma is largely preventable through UV protection and early detection, therefore it’s incredibly important to be able to spread this message and educate the community, particularly teenagers. We also offer support services for those affected by skin cancer, both for the person with the diagnosis and their friends and family,” he said.

“Having Thrifty WA as a major partner is a real coup for our charity, as it enables us to get out into regional communities even more. As part of the agreement, Thrifty has supplied us with a branded vehicle, as well as additional vehicle hire when required.”

The partnership will also assist in transporting the melanomaWA team across WA to implement awareness workshops, events and support sessions.

“In 2017 / 2018, we plan to visit as many regional towns and areas as possible, from the Southwest to Goldfields, the Pilbara and beyond,” Mr Heal said.

Thrifty WA General Manager Andrew Kamphaug said they were proud to partner with such an important WA charity.

“We were very taken with Clinton Heal’s story and impressed with the organisation he’s developed and success it’s achieving,” Mr Kamphaug said.

Thrifty WA officially handed over the melanomaWA branded vehicle (Mitsubishi Outlander) in recognition of the commencement of the partnership on Thursday, July 6, 2017.
