Twenty-three impressive short films were submitted this year as a part of the Cinesnaps Short Film Competition, making 2017 the Competition’s strongest year yet.
Not only were the quality of the short films on offer outstanding, but there was also a solid presence of homeschool entries and a phenomenal number of entries from Manea Senior College.
The teachers and parents involved in assisting the students in their productions were supportive, eager and thankful to CinefestOZ for the competition and opportunity for their students.
Cinesnaps Short Film Competition’s final 7 short films are all incredibly deserving of their position, with a variety of interpretations of the theme ‘The Birthday Card’.
This year’s finalists are:
- Home-educated Eloise Collins with ‘A Birthday Card's Legacy’
- Manea Senior College student Emily Reeves with ‘Flavours of You’
- Manea Senior College student Abbey King with ‘Break a Leg’
- Manea Senior College students Jasmine Guinness and Stoney Webb with ‘The Getaway Plan’
- Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School student James Forster with ‘Salt Water’
- Georgiana Molloy Anglican School student Neve Johnson with ‘Sixteen’
- Cape Naturaliste College student Kalani McDaniel with ‘Criminal Card’
This year’s Jury panel will be chaired by Cinesnaps Patron Myles Pollard along with director Rhiannon Bannenberg and actor Mark Coles Smith.
All students who submitted a short film will receive constructive feedback to help the students improve their short filmmaking skills.
Last year more than 200 people attended the Cinesnaps Grand Finale, which was hosted by comedian, screenwriter and director Tim Ferguson.
The South West’s young emerging filmmakers will be on show at the 2017 Cinesnaps Grand Finale on August 24. Tickets are available from cinefestoz.com.
