Today CinefestOZ are proud to reveal their 2017 program, a slate truly reflective of the strength and quality of today’s Australian film industry.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the CinefestOZ Film Festival, which will take place across the South West region from Wednesday August, 23 to Sunday August, 27.
From Augusta to Bunbury, over 37 venues will host a number of diverse, unique and immersive film experiences for everyone to enjoy.
Over the five-day Festival, filmmakers and film-lovers will converge to enjoy Premiere events, cosy side bar events, in conversation lunches, general screenings, family activities and free community events.
This year there will be over 95 film and event options on offer, including seven world premieres, nine Australian premieres and 35 WA premieres.
Attending the festivities will be a number of special guests including Ben Elton, Ewen Leslie, Joel Jackson, Matt Day, Luke Ford and Myles Pollard.
Festival CEO Malinda Nixon said that CinefestOZ is very proud to be celebrating ten years of showcasing quality Australian film to our diverse audience from throughout Australia and internationally.
“This year’s program is of an exceptionally high quality with the largest number of WA premieres of Australian films to date,” Ms Nixon said.
“This year’s festival events are selling well thanks to early bird release tickets, and we expect this trend to continue.
“Opening night has sold out and ticket sales are climbing, so it’s important to take a look at the program and choose the films and events you want to see. Exploring the program and the stunning South West simultaneously ensures festival-goers can experience the best of the festival and the region.”
This year will be the fourth year that the $100,000 film prize will be awarded to the producer of an Australian feature film.
The four film prize finalists vying for Australia’s greatest film prize for 2017 include Ali’s Wedding, Australia Day, MIFF@CinefestOZ Jungle and Three Summers.
This will be judged by an industry jury, chaired by internationally acclaimed writer and director, Scott Hicks.
CinefestOZ provides a safe and relaxed environment for various audiences to come together and enjoy Australian film against the spectacular back drop of the South West, Western Australia.
CinefestOZ is supported by the State Government through Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program. Rio Tinto is a proud Premium Partner of CinefestOZ.
The festival acknowledges its strong partnership with Screenwest, Lotterywest and Screen Australia.
