A body believed to be that of a man swept off rocks while fishing in WA's north has been found by searchers.
Police Inspector Mal Anderson said the 28-year-old man was fishing at High Rocks, near Quobba Station, with two other fishermen on Sunday about 12:30pm when a large wave came over the top of the cliff and washed him into the ocean.
It's understood he was not wearing a lifejacket.
The cliffs in the area are about 10 metres high and witnesses watched the man for as short time while making efforts to rescue him.
A rescue boat was dispatched at the time but failed to find the man.
A search effort was activated, and on Tuesday morning a body was located, with police saying that based on initial inquiries the body is believed to be that of the missing fisherman.
The missing man's family, who live overseas, have been informed of the discovery.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Acting Senior Sergeant Scott McDonald from Carnarvon Police said SES and marine rescue service volunteers did a good job in trying conditions.
"The weather conditions have been very poor, yet all our emergency service volunteers have worked with us through those conditions," he said.
"This is a tragic outcome, and a family will be grieving. We do not want to see other families going through this, so I ask everyone who is considering undertaking water-based activities, whether it is from a boat or from the shoreline, to please check the weather conditions first, and reconsider plans if the weather is not looking good."
