Capel Bowls has started the season on a positive note after they were granted funds from Collie Preston MP Mick Murray.
The funds were given to the bowling club as part of a ‘Local Projects, Local Jobs’ which supports local sporting clubs and community organisations to fund small projects.
The grant of $35,000 will be used by the Capel Bowls Club to assist in the installation of a new synthetic bowling green.
“Capel Bowls Club is a fantastic local bowls club which provides seniors especially with a chance to get active, compete and stay in touch with friends,” Mr Murray said.
“As the local member for Collie-Preston and also as the Minister for Sport and Recreation; Seniors and Ageing; Volunteering this club – and many others like it – is an example of how we can combine volunteering, sport and seniors in the same space.
“This helps maximise the enjoyment seniors have in their later years and encourage a healthy lifestyle.”
Capel Bowls Club President Steve O’Brien welcomed the grant and said it would be put to good use straight away to install a new bowling green.
Replacing the old green with a new one will mean the club’s bowling facilities are up to date and would secure a first class grading at the club which would take them well into the future.
“Its grants like this from the state government that help bowls club remain viable and secure their long-term future,” Mr O’Brien said.
