Stranger Things bar receives hilarious Netflix letter

A nerdy cease and desist letter has gone viral after the streaming giant told a Stranger Things themed bar called The Upside Down to go, well, upside down.

The pop-up bar in question features an alphabet wall made out of Christmas lights, similar to the one in the popular sci-fi series. Customers can also order cocktails inspired by the show, including a drink called Eleven's Eggo.

There's just one problem: the bar, which sprang up on August 18, doesn't have official ties to Netflix.

The establishment has proved so popular that its owners hoped to stay open until Stranger Things season two is released. But that will no longer be happening after the venue came to the attention of Netflix's lawyers.

"Look, I don't want you to think I'm a total wastoid, and I love how much you guys love the show," the cease-and-desist letter reads. "Just wait until you see season two! But unless I'm living in the Upside Down, I don't think we did a deal with you for this pop-up. You're obviously creative types, so I'm sure you can appreciate that it's important to us to have a say in how our fans encounter the worlds we build."

The letter then requests the bar's owners ask permission if they consider doing another Stranger Things themed pop-up in the future.

"We love our fans more than anything, but you should know that the demogorgon is not always as forgiving. So please don't make us call your mum."

Upside Down manager Jared Saul told Chicago news site DNAinfo there were no hard feelings. He also confirmed the bar would close on October 1 as originally planned.

"It's been so much fun for us and for fans of Stranger Things," he said. "[It's] even introduced the show to new fans here in Chicago who weren't aware of the show before visiting the pop-up."

Stranger Things season two is set to be released on October 27.
